Lipscomb Biology Scholars Program
Lipscomb Biology Scholars are selected from among our most exceptional incoming students — those who bring intellectual curiosity, a passion for discovery, and a desire to pursue science as a calling.

Biology Scholars choose from a personalized menu of academic, research, and professional development opportunities tailored to support their future goals and formation.

The Biology Scholars Program is a prestigious community of students committed to academic, scholarly, and professional formation. At Lipscomb, we believe that the pursuit of biological knowledge is one way we participate as co-creators with God in advancing human flourishing. Biology Scholars are equipped not only to excel in their careers, but to serve with purpose and integrity in whatever path they pursue.
Biology Scholars may choose to participate in the following opportunities based on their professional interests and goals:
Research Opportunities
- A guaranteed spot in a research lab as early as their first semester
- Guaranteed selection for the Biology Summer Research Fellowship for one summer during their undergraduate career (typically after sophomore or junior year), including a $3,000 stipend and free on-campus housing for non-local students — OR — preferential consideration for the J.S. Ward Society Summer Research Fellowship, a competitive program offering research experiences at Vanderbilt University, Meharry Medical College, and Lipscomb University
- An $800 travel voucher to present their research at a regional or national conference
Mentoring and Professional Development
- Priority matching with a health professions mentor working in their area of interest
- A guaranteed seat at the monthly Dinner & Conversations series, facilitating networking and mentorship with health professionals
Unique Academic Opportunities
- Priority selection for the Human Gross Anatomy course upon completion of required prerequisites and application
Consideration for Department Scholarship
- Eligibility for a $2,000/year Biology scholarship award, granted to 2–3 Lipscomb Biology Scholars annually
Biology Scholars are selected annually based on academic criteria, biology interest and experience, essays, video submission and a faculty interview.
Applicants must have scored a:
- 30 or higher on the ACT
- 1360 or better on the SAT
OR
- A 97 or higher on the CLT, including superscores
Additionally, applicants must have a cumulative high school GPA of at least 3.5 at the end of the junior year. Weighted GPAs will be considered. Students who apply to the university as test-optional must submit an official test score to be eligible for the Biology Scholars Program.
