Beyond the Service: How Nevis Changed Us Forever
March 25, 2026
Being a part of this group visiting Nevis was truly special. This was the first group from Lipscomb to visit Nevis in 7 years. With that, none of us, except for our leaders, knew exactly what to expect. We were all just so excited to be serving the people of Nevis and the Lord! This was honestly one of the most beautiful things about this trip. We went into every day ready to give it our all and complete every task that was given to us with joy!
Even though none of us have visited Nevis previously, I would describe this trip as visiting and helping out old friends. Everyone we encountered was so welcoming and hospitable. The church we were supporting was called Government Road Church of Christ. It was a small church in the southwest part of the island that was growing their building. It was such a blessing to be able to serve this church by painting and assisting with classes and worship.
Here’s a quick rundown of what our days looked like:
In the mornings, our group was able to serve at 5 different elementary schools on the island! Our job was to help them out in any way we could! We painted murals, picnic tables, sight words, and multiplication tables, built trampolines and seesaws, and played with and loved on the kids! It was so amazing to build connections with the students and love on them. In the afternoons, we were able to learn about Nevis lifestyle and culture. Members of the church we supported gave us tours of the towns and of their homes. It was such an amazing way to fully immerse ourselves into the Nevisian way of life. In the evenings, after a home-cooked meal provided by the women of the church, we were able to host a VBS for the kids, which we were able to invite on our school visits. During the VBS, we helped lead singing, taught children’s, men’s, and women’s classes, and played games with the kids after! It was so amazing to be able to experience and serve in so many different ways throughout the day!
It is safe to say that all of us were so blessed and honored to have been a part of this team. While we went with the intention to serve and change lives in Nevis, we didn’t expect how much our lives would be influenced as well. The power of the Spirit and the reach of the Church is truly awe-inspiring and so encouraging to see how good God is!! One of the members of our team said, “I am so excited to be in Heaven with all of these people!” This is what it’s all about! Growing and sharing the Kingdom of God! We cannot wait to see what God has in store for the future of this trip, but we know that we will all carry this trip with us forever, and it has changed our lives, and the people of Nevis! God is good!
