Lebanon spiritual direction interest meeting - TBD
Tuesday, March 24, 2020 7:00 PM-9:00 PM
415 W Main St (West Entrance), Lebanon, TN 37087
John Grant will host an information gathering in Lebanon, Tennessee, on March 24 to share what spiritual direction is, how to discern one's calling to the ministry of spiritual direction, and details regarding Lipscomb’s program of formation and training.
"In full-time ministry, it's difficult to care for your soul. You're always nurturing others, and few people watch out for you. Spiritual direction has been a lifeline, a safe place to grow as a leader and as a child of God," Grant said.
He has received monthly spiritual direction since 2003 and completed two years of training with Lipscomb’s Institute for Christian Spirituality. He worked in congregational ministry with three churches over 25 years and now serves as executive director of Compassionate Hands, a network of 40 Wilson County churches caring for people experiencing homelessness.
The ministry of spiritual direction requires both formation and training; it involves transformation and education. Participants in this program will acquire the skills of asking good questions, listening attentively, and fostering stillness as they facilitate deep and meaningful conversations. Participants will also read and discuss many of the best books about this focused type of pastoral care. Yet, at the heart of this experience is tending to one’s own spiritual formation.
