On Wednesday, Jan. 23, Lipscomb University will host a screening of the documentary The Providers, at 6:30 p.m. in Ward Hall.
The 2018 documentary tells the story of three healthcare providers serving communities in rural New Mexico, an area with a shortage of physicians. The nurse practitioner, doctor, and Physician Assistant work for El Centro, a series of clinics working with patients regardless of their ability to pay. The documentary highlights the journey of the three providers as they confront the daunting challenges of opioid addiction and rural poverty.
Besides facing their patient's issues, the providers must cope with the stresses they feel as they attempt to serve others. The nurse, doctor, and PA suffer but strive never to abandon their compassion.
A brief panel discussion follows the screening. Students receive chapel credit.
