BisonTalk with Steve Taylor
2 PM | George Shinn Center
Artistic reinvention! You may think you know Professor Steve Taylor, director of Lipscomb’s creative sandbox Imagine House and architect of the now thriving Lipscomb film school. But which Steve Taylor do you know? He contains multitudes.
The thoughtful, genre-pushing, faith-fueled filmmaker behind acclaimed projects like Sketch, The Dead Sea Squirrels, and Blue Like Jazz?
Or maybe the multi-platinum record producer and music industry executive who helped launch Sixpence None The Richer, a woodshedding alternative band from Texas out of the confines of the Christian music market and into the mainstream. Through his label Squint, Taylor produced and developed some of the most exciting artists ever to bust through the stained-glass ceiling.
Or maybe you were most impacted by his work as a co-writer and producer for CCM groups like The Newsboys back in the early ‘90s, or hard rockers Guardian, or hip-hop legends LA Symphony.
Or maybe, just maybe, you are “seasoned” enough to remember when Steve Taylor was crafting some of the most imaginative, thoughtful, engaging and often hilarious Christian “alternative rock” in the ‘80s as an artist himself.
So—which Steve Taylor do you know? On Nov. 15 we will hear from all of them when the man himself sits in the hot seat to join us in conversation. Hosted by Lipscomb’s Director of Music Industry Studies, John J. Thompson, and joined by Matt Slocum and Leigh Nash of Sixpence None The Richer and others, Taylor will be interrogated, grilled, investigated and plumbed for every last glistening morsel of wisdom his hard-won sojourn through the music and film industry has afforded him. We will hit every chapter and leave only one stone unturned. He told us which one. There will music. There will be video. There will possibly be nondisclosure agreements at each exit.
Do not miss this.
