Stack these 18-hour certificates at your pace to build toward a full MFA, tailoring your education to fit your personal and professional goals while gaining industry-aligned expertise.
This highly flexible program allows you to participate anywhere in the country. We offer synchronous or asynchronous online courses with instructor feedback and online community engagement. There are also in-person experiences for students to gather in the beginning, middle and end of the certificates annually, as well as opportunities to meet in entertainment capitals like Nashville, Austin and LA.

Choose from the following certificates to start working toward your Master of Fine Arts (MFA) degree:
- Screenwriting Certificate (18-hour certificate)
- Television Writing Certificate (18-hour certificate)
- Film/TV Business Certificate (18-hour certificate)
- Animation Foundations Certificate (18-hour certificate)
- 2D Advanced Animation Certificate (18-hour certificate)
- CG Advanced Animation Certificate (18-hour certificate)
- UI/UX Web & App Design Certificate (18-hour certificate)

Admissions Requirements
* Due to high demand enrollment is limited.
All applicants to the certificates or MFA graduate program must submit the following:
- Application Form. Each applicant must complete an application form. The application form is available at grad.lipscomb.edu/apply.
- Application Fee. Each application should be accompanied by a $50 nonrefundable application fee.
- Official Transcript(s). Each applicant must submit an official transcript, showing degree conferral when appropriate, from all schools attended. Official transcript(s) Undergraduate degrees with a cumulative 3.0 GPA will receive priority consideration.
- Personal statement
- Two letters of recommendation
- Résumé
* The admission process also includes an interview which will be scheduled through the program director.
Portfolio Guidelines
Minimum standards for stackable certificates
- All coursework used to satisfy a particular certificate’s requirements must be completed within a 3 year period with a grade of “C” or higher.
- After completing three stackable certificates a student can earn an MFA through an approved Capstone project and by taking the Capstone course for credit between 3 - 6 hours. The student has five years to complete the Capstone project and earn the MFA.
- Capstone projects must be approved by and overseen by the Graduate Certificate Committee which consists of faculty from each discipline withing the CEA.
- Students must earn a grade point average of at least 3.0 in all courses used to satisfy any certificate program.
- Substitutions on course requirements can only be given with the approval of the Director of the Entertainment & the Arts program.
- The maximum professional credit that can be given in any one certificate is nine hours per certificate.
