The Lipscomb Bisons represent Lipscomb University in 17 NCAA Division I sports including baseball, basketball, cross-country, golf, soccer, softball, tennis, track and field and volleyball. These sports are part of the ASUN Conference. Recent successes include men’s basketball, women’s soccer, women’s cross-country and men’s golf all winning ASUN Conference Championships and representing our university in their respective NCAA Tournaments.

This past year, we had a massive increase in school spirit and will continue to grow our amazing game day atmosphere. We are looking forward to welcoming a new class of students to the Herd!    • We do not charge admission for Lipscomb University students, Lipscomb Academy students, faculty or staff members. Just show your Lipscomb ID to gain admission to all regular-season home games.

Campus Recreation includes the Student Activities Center (SAC), intramural sports and group fitness classes. We are committed to growing students’ mind, body and spirit by means of physical health and nutrition. Through the use of our weight room, gymnasium, functional fitness room, organized fitness classes and intramural sports program, you can remain physically active while growing mentally and spiritually alongside peers and staff. Campus Rec also takes pride in all of the student employment opportunities we provide. We hire SAC attendants, intramural officials and group fitness instructors. We invest lots of time and energy into creating a fun, safe and respectful work environment for our student staff.  
 

1. Is there a cost associated with using the facilities?
   • No! The use of the SAC, intramural fields and group fitness classes is free for all current Lipscomb University students. Simply bring your student ID to scan at the entrance.
2. How do I participate in group fitness classes?
   • All students can attend any of our group fitness classes including, but not limited to, hip-hop fitness, HIIT, yoga and spin. The schedule is posted on our website, Instagram and around campus every semester.

Our First-Year Experience (FYE) program and theoretical approach to student success at Lipscomb is rooted in the five key factors of student thriving, which provides a holistic approach to fostering student success during the critical transition to college (Schreiner, 2013, 2020). 

The program engages students to explore their calling and purpose as they better understand their gifts and seek to understand who God has called them to be. This is done practically by equipping students with the skills to develop resiliency, navigate stress, refine positive coping strategies and cultivate strong and healthy relationships. By intentionally addressing these areas, we empower first-year students to flourish academically, socially and emotionally as they adapt to their new environment.

   • Yes, all incoming freshmen are required to take the Lipscomb Compass course in their first semester. Social clubs are a unique and exciting experience at Lipscomb which operate as Lipscomb’s version of Greek Life. 1. What are social clubs?
   • Social clubs are local sororities and fraternities only affiliated with Lipscomb University. Students enjoy participating in their club’s traditions, events and activities year-round. Social clubs are devoted to fostering Christlike communities for all Lipscomb students.
2. Who is eligible to join a social club?
   • Undergraduate students who have completed at least one semester at a university, hold a 2.5 GPA, are currently enrolled full-time and are not on any type of university probation are eligible to join a social club. First-year freshmen CANNOT join a social club until the spring semester.
3. Why would I join a social club?
   • Social clubs are a great way to get involved at Lipscomb. Students in social clubs create a close community with other club members, obtain access to more leadership experience and work closely with philanthropic efforts each year.    • Chapel facilitates a strong sense of community and invites all of campus — faculty, staff and students — into a shared communal rhythm. We do this by participating in the campus-wide Gathering on Tuesday mornings and in Breakout Chapels—small, consistent groups that meet weekly.
2. Is chapel required?

3. How will I track my chapel attendance?

The Student Government Association (SGA) exists to enhance the student experience at Lipscomb University. The SGA helps sustain the spirit and morale of students, advocates for the concerns of students and serves as a catalyst for student academic, social and spiritual growth while promoting the Christian values and principles of the university. The SGA is composed of 28 senators and 4 executive officers. Each of the four classes are represented by 7 elected officials (the class president, vice president, class coordinator and 4 at-large senators). The executive team consists of the president, vice president, secretary and treasurer. 
 

1. What does the SGA do?
   • The primary purpose of SGA officers is to be the active eyes and ears of their classmates. Senators discuss and fund tangible enhancement of the student experience (i.e. upgrading equipment or services, distributing funds to student organizations, collaborating and planning campus events, advocating for student wants, needs and opinions) throughout the school year.
2. How do I get involved in SGA?
   • There are seven freshman senator positions available each year called the Freshman Leadership Council (FLC). Joining the Senate as a freshman is a two-step process:
     • 1) Fill out the FLC application sent to you in an email from SGA during QuestWeek. Those selected will be eligible to campaign.
     • 2) Shortly after school begins, there will be designated dates when candidates can campaign, followed by an election. The freshman class will vote to determine the seven individuals that will represent their class.
3. What is the time commitment for serving on SGA?
   • Serving on SGA requires attending a weekly meeting, held on Monday nights from 7-9 p.m. Additionally, specific projects or groups within SGA may occasionally meet outside of the regular meeting time. In total, the weekly time commitment ranges from 2-4 hours per week.

Student organizations are a great way to build leadership skills, develop socially and make new friends who all share a similar interest. The purpose of our organizations is to provide several opportunities for students to plug into something on campus. This allows everyone to experience a diverse group of people with similar hobbies, passions and desires.
 

1. What is the difference between social clubs and student organizations?
   • Social clubs are Lipscomb’s version of fraternities and sororities. Student organizations are groups that any student can join and are categorized as academic groups, general interest groups, cultural and affinity groups, ministry and service groups or club sport groups.
2. How do I get involved in a student organization?
   • Check out, contact or join at lipscomb.presence.io.  Each semester, multiple student organization fairs take place. Students are encouraged to meet the organizations at these fairs and observe all of the many opportunities to get involved with student organizations on campus.
3. What if I can’t find a student organization for me?
   • You can start your own! Lipscomb has a streamlined process for creating student organizations for students who have passions and interests in areas not currently supported by a university-affiliated student organization. 2. How is a Student Care Coordinator different from a counselor?
   • While Student Care Coordinators often have mental health experience, the support they offer is broader than focused mental health support you receive from a counselor. Student Care Coordinators help students navigate financial stress, food insecurity, physical and mental health challenges, family crisis or other personal concerns through a strengths-based and goal-oriented approach.

At Lipscomb University, academic advising is an integral component of the educational experience. All entering freshmen will be assigned an academic success coach who will provide academic advising and guide students through their educational journey. They assist with course selection, degree planning and scheduling, ensuring students stay on track for graduation. Students will also be assigned a faculty mentor within their academic department who will help provide guidance with internships, research opportunities and professional growth. For our “deciding/exploratory” students, they will be assigned to an academic coach who is trained in student development and retention.

We wish advising to be more than simply providing factual information and constructing semester schedules. As you move through your academic program, it is our desire that you develop a mentoring relationship with faculty in your discipline, as well as your advisor. We hope you will see your advisor as someone to whom you can turn with questions not only about what classes but about your vocation, calling and life direction.
 

1. Who will my advisor be?
   • All entering freshmen will be assigned to an academic coach who will provide academic advising. Students will meet with their advisor to discuss degree planning, course registration and degree progress to make sure students are staying on track to graduate. They will also help students with campus resources, major exploration and academic support.
2. When do I meet with my advisor?
   • There are two formal “advising periods” each year—one in the fall and one in the spring, which are scheduled prior to registration for the following semester. These are designed as times for you to schedule a brief session with advisors to review proposed class schedules. However, students may meet with advisors beyond these times. Faculty maintain office hours each week, and we encourage you to schedule office visits.
3. Who is my faculty mentor?
   • All entering students will also be assigned to a faculty mentor within their academic department. Faculty mentors will meet with students regularly and talk through internship and research opportunities, supplemental areas of study, career goals and opportunities for professional growth.

However, the Writing Studio requires appointments for one-on-one consultations, which can be made online at WCONLINE after registering for an account.

Lipscomb University’s Global Learning Programs represent some of the most unique travel and learning opportunities around. You can take courses in other countries related to your major or interest, ranging from a couple of weeks to an entire semester, with a group of fellow Lipscomb students and faculty. 1. When should I study abroad?
   • For Semester Programs, we recommend students study abroad during their sophomore year. We believe it is important for students to get acquainted with campus life during their freshman year, and students are required to take most of their major courses during their junior and senior years. Faculty-led Programs run during the summer break, and students of all classifications are encouraged to apply.
2. How much does studying abroad cost?
   • Semester Long Programs: The cost is the same as living on campus (block tuition, housing and a meal plan) plus a program fee. For the upcoming school year (2025-2026), the program fee is about $5,000-$6,000.
   • Faculty-led Programs: The cost varies based on duration and location. Program fees range anywhere from a couple hundred dollars to a few thousand dollars.
3. When should I apply to study abroad?
   • Due to the high demand for our programs, we recommend you apply about a year prior to the semester you want to study abroad. For Faculty-led Programs, students should apply several months prior to trip departure.

The Honors College seeks to provide exceptional students with unique opportunities for intellectual challenge and growth. Classes are kept small to allow students and faculty members to exchange ideas in a format conducive for free discussion. Professors are chosen for their ability to inspire bright students to think and work independently, expand creatively, develop intellectual curiosity, express ideas clearly and logically, and to respect the ideas of others. The college also encourages students to develop significant research interests, providing outlets on campus, as well as at state and regional conferences, to share their research with other students and faculty.    • Challenging courses in the liberal arts, small class sizes and excellent professors

2. What are the benefits of completing the required Honors courses to graduate as an Honors Scholar?
   • Completing the Liberal Arts Heritage Curriculum at Lipscomb shows that you are a determined and well-rounded student. Once completed, the Honors College requirements make our students stand out from the crowd post-graduation.  
3. Are there any scholarships available through the Honors College?  
   • Not specifically, but nearly every HC student earns academic scholarships from Lipscomb. These scholarships are centrally organized and awarded through the financial aid office. 
4. Would it change my prospects of studying abroad?  
   • Many HC students study abroad. Your academic advisor will help you fit both the Honors College curriculum as well as study abroad into your academic plan. It certainly can be done!
5. How many Honors courses are required and how will they fit into my schedule with my General Ed. and Major courses?
   • Six Honors courses are required; you’ll choose one course from a selection in each of the following disciplines: Literature, Sciences, the Ancient World, the Modern World, Society & Perspectives and Faith & Reason. Most of these fulfill general education requirements and/or courses needed for your major that you’d be taking anyway.
6. What if I decide Honors College isn’t for me?  
   • All you need to do is notify Ms. Thompson (kristen.thompson [at] lipscomb.edu). However, we will encourage you to remain in the HC and enjoy the benefits, even if you need a short break from Honors courses. The only reason not to remain a member is that your GPA falls consistently below 3.5 and you don’t work out a solid plan with the HC administration to get back on track.

1. What is the due date for financial arrangements to be complete?
   • Fall: August 1st
   • Spring: December 1st

2. What payment plans are offered?
   • We offer 5-month, 4-month or 3-month payment plans for fall and spring terms, as well as a 2-month option for summer term in TouchNet, which is accessed through the student portal. All payment plans have an enrollment fee of $60 and payments draft automatically each month on the 25th. You must re-enroll each term you want to use a payment plan as your form of payment.
3. How do I pay?
   • Payments can be made online with ACH (direct payment, no additional charge) or credit card (convenience fee) in the student portal in TouchNet. (Please enable pop-up blockers.)
4. How do I get refunds/stipends?

2. When can I start an internship?
   • Most students start internships sometime during their sophomore year. Your academic standing and major also influence when you can begin internships. The best advice is to meet with the career center to discuss your unique situation. We encourage students to have at least three different major-related experiences, whether for-credit or non-credit.

Lipscomb is a recovery-friendly campus community. We want to build up and support students where they are, making sure they know they are loved and have a place on campus. To support recovery efforts, an Al-Anon group meets virtually each week. 
 

1. I’m not in recovery but I want to help.How can I get involved?
   • We want to dispel myths that surround any type of addiction. To do that, we have to start with the individuals who are closest to us. In partnership with the Tennessee Department of Mental Health and Substance Abuse Services, Lipscomb’s Clinical Mental Health Counseling (CMHC) Addiction Specialization program has developed the LU Recovery Ally Initiative.
   • Recovery Ally training equips participants with the appropriate knowledge and resources needed to better address problems related to substance misuse that may arise within our campus community. If you have a little over an hour, you can support your peers by becoming a Recovery Ally!

The Financial Aid Office helps you manage and maintain scholarships, as well as process and receive both federal and state student aid. Our goal is to keep you and the school in compliance with federal and state regulations, help you to complete your degree and set you up for future success. For most students, the financial aid process begins with completing the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) each year.  

1. Do I need to file the FAFSA each year?
   • Yes! The FAFSA should open on October 1 for the following year. It is recommended to file as early as possible to ensure you do not miss state or institutional deadlines. All Tennessee state aid and some institutional aid awards require you to file the FAFSA.
2. I received my Aid Offer. Now what?
   • Scholarships and grants are automatically accepted and applied to your Lipscomb account.
   • Go to my.lipscomb.edu > CNS Student Portal >  My Financial Aid > Financial Aid Overview to:
     • Review scholarships and grants that have been awarded to you
     • Accept or decline Federal Student Loan offers
     • Review Federal Work Study offers

3. What must I do to keep my academic scholarship?
   • For most academic scholarships, a 3.0 cumulative Lipscomb GPA is required. The Lipscomb Trustee Scholarship requires a 3.25 cumulative Lipscomb GPA. All institutional aid requires enrollment of at least 12 hours each term. Lipscomb scholarships are available for up to 126 attempted credit hours. Information about institutional awards is available in the Catalog along with renewal criteria and aid policies. It is important for students to know the rules and criteria for each part of their aid.

We strive to maintain a healthy environment by following CDC and Tennessee Health Department recommendations. See below for important information regarding immunization records and answers to frequently asked questions. Be aware that documentation of required immunizations is mandatory PRIOR to your arrival on campus. Please note some programs may have additional requirements, especially the health sciences programs.

1. What are Lipscomb’s health requirements?
   • Immunization Requirements
     • MMR: All students born on or after Jan. 1, 1957, must provide proof of immunization with two doses of the MMR vaccine at least 28 days apart or a titer showing immunity to measles, mumps and rubella.
     • Varicella or Chickenpox: All students born on or after Jan. 1, 1980, must provide proof of immunization with two doses of the varicella vaccine at least 28 days apart, a titer showing immunity to varicella or documentation from a medical facility verifying a previous diagnosis of chickenpox.
     • Meningitis: New incoming students who are younger than 22 years of age and who will live on campus must have documentation of a dose of the MCV4 vaccine at greater than or equal to 16 years of age. All students not living on campus who have not received a dose of this vaccine within the past five years may choose to be vaccinated to reduce the risk of meningococcal disease.

   • The Lipscomb University Health Center is available by appointment only, but most days there are same-day appointments available. We are open Monday-Friday, 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m. We are closed for lunch from 12:30-1 p.m. Summer hours may vary.
   • The LUHC is able to offer billing of your insurance for your health care needs. Please contact your insurance provider to see if we are in network. We highly encourage students to have health insurance and to check with their insurance provider to verify their benefits in the state of Tennessee. There are cash-pay prices available for students, as well.

   1. You should install a web security suite and keep your computer current on the operating system, browser, and Office suite updates. Your home Internet Service Provider may provide a security suite bundled with your home service, so check before you purchase one. If you bring a desktop, your computer must have the ability to connect to wifi as wired connections are not available in the residence halls.
6. What printing services are available?
   1. Students are allocated a print quota that equates to 600 monochrome (black and white) pages per semester for printing on campus printers. See printing.lipscomb.edu. Monochrome printers are available in most academic buildings and in the lobby of each residence hall. A color printer is available in the library, but color prints charge at a higher rate which equates to 10 monochrome prints per page.

1. How can I access health insurance in the U.S.?
   • Lipscomb University partners with LewerMark, a company that focuses on international students, to provide a competitive, comprehensive health insurance plan. This plan is mandatory for all F-1 visa international students. Your Lipscomb Principal Designated School Official (P/DSO) can provide you with a health insurance card and more information about the health plan.
2. What available transportation systems are there in Nashville?
   • Lipscomb University students can obtain a virtual card to ride the Nashville public WeGo bus system. Please reach out to your Lipscomb P/DSO for more information.
   • Uber and Lyft are rideshare services available at their normal rates in the Nashville area.
3. Can I work or do an internship?
   • As an F-1 international student, you are allowed to work 20 hours or less per week on Lipscomb’s campus. Visit the Lipscomb Jobs website to search for a student worker position. You must obtain a Social Security Number to work in the United States. Please schedule an appointment with your Lipscomb P/DSO for more information regarding working in the United States.

Lipscomb’s Department of Security operates 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, dedicated to maintaining a safe environment on all campuses. Crime prevention through active patrol, emergency response, community training, special events, vehicle assistance and Bison Walk safety escorts are only a few of the services offered through this department. Our officers are highly trained and seek to provide a positive experience for students, employees and guests visiting our campus. 

1. Do you offer a safety escort? If so, how can I use that service?
   • Yes, the Lipscomb Department of Security offers the Bison Walk. If you would like an escort from your dorm to your vehicle, from your class back to your dorm, or anywhere else on campus, just call our 24-hour Dispatch Center at 615.966.7600. If you have parked at one of our satellite parking areas (Stokes School or the Academy football field), one of our officers will be happy to give you a ride to your parked car.
   • This service is available 24 hours a day. We also encourage everyone to download the Lipscomb Ready app for their smartphone. Along with many great resources, the Lipscomb Ready app provides the ability to use a virtual Bison Walk. This can be helpful when you find yourself off campus. We are happy to talk one-on-one with anyone who wants to know more about how this app works.
2. How do I get my student ID or register my vehicle?
   • Lipscomb ID cards and vehicle parking decals can be ordered online through myLipscomb and picked up at our Dispatch office located in the basement of Beaman Library. The entire process can also be completed at the service window in our Dispatch office.
   • For in-person vehicle registration, please bring your state-issued driver’s license and your state-issued vehicle registration. For in-person student ID cards, please bring your state-issued photo identification.
3. Who do I call if I need help?
   • Call our Dispatch Center at 615.966.7600. Our main office is located in the lower level of Sewell Hall and is open from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m., Monday-Friday. Our Dispatch Center is open 24 hours a day and is located in the basement of the Beaman Library.
   • If you have a life-threatening emergency, please call 911. If able to do so after calling 911, notify our Security Department at 615.966.7600. We can respond quickly and coordinate with any outside resources to get help to you as fast as possible.
4. Does Lipscomb Security offer a safety application for mobile phones?
   • In coordination with the Office of Risk Management, Lipscomb Security is proud to offer the Lipscomb Ready App to all students. The app features a variety of features such as a Virtual Bison Walk, Friend Watch, timely emergency notifications and the ability to report an incident or request help. The app is free to download and available for iPhone and Android devices. Be sure to enable push notifications upon setup.
5. How will I know if there is severe weather or an active emergency on campus?
   • Should some sort of emergency occur on campus, Lipscomb Security will utilize multiple avenues of communication to inform and protect members of the campus community. Using an outdoor notification system, push notifications via the Lipscomb Ready App and other technology, emergency information will be pushed as quickly as possible to ensure the safety of our community.
6. Does Lipscomb University Security offer off-campus vehicle assistance?
   • Depending on staffing levels at the moment of the call, Lipscomb Security is able to provide off-campus vehicle assistance in a 2 mile radius around campus. On-campus employment at Lipscomb University provides students the opportunity for financial support, work experience and professional connections while pursuing their academic goals. The job duties and responsibilities of student employees vary greatly, and they may or may not be related to the student’s field of study. Students are limited to 20 hours of work per week, even if multiple student jobs are held.

Available jobs are posted continuously throughout the year on the Lipscomb Job Board. You must apply online for all student work jobs.

TimelyCare is a telehealth program for students that provides access to 24/7 virtual mental health care. Services are accessible from anywhere in the United States, with no cost to visit!

Whether you're anxious or overwhelmed, you will be able to talk to a licensed provider from your smartphone or any web-enabled device. Providers are available to offer mental health support via phone or secure video visits. Check out the FAQs below to learn more.
 

1. Who can use TimelyCare and how is it accessed?
   • Any Lipscomb University student can use TimelyCare. Simply go to timelycare.com/lipscomb to register with your Lipscomb email address. Then, you can have visits from any web-enabled device–smartphone, laptop or desktop. TimelyCare is available from anywhere in the United States.
2. How much does it cost?
   • TimelyCare services are free to all students.
3. What services are available?
   • Counseling: Scheduled counseling sessions are available with  licensed therapists who specialize in college students! This option allows the student extra flexibility and autonomy in choosing a therapist. Students receive 12 free sessions per academic year.
   • TalkNow: This service provides unlimited 24/7, on-demand access to a mental health professional to talk about anything at any time.
   • Psychiatry: Students needing medication support may receive psychiatry support provided by referral.
4. Where can I go to have privacy on campus?
   • Students can reserve study rooms in the library, talk in their car, ask a roommate for some privacy for an hour or talk to their Residence Hall Director about other spots in the dorm they might be able to use. 

Our job and commitment in the Title IX Office is to prevent and end all forms of sexual misconduct and discrimination including but not limited to sexual harassment, sexual assault, intimate partner violence and stalking. The Title IX Office implements policies and programs to prevent sexual misconduct and discrimination, providing education and training to the campus community and staying in line with all applicable state and federal laws.

We are here to listen to you, walk with you and offer resources and support if you are faced with any of these difficult issues!
 

1. What is considered sexual misconduct?
   • Sexual misconduct encompasses sexual harassment, sexual assault, intimate partner violence and stalking. This includes but is not limited to rape, incest, nonconsensual sexual acts, inappropriate comments, gestures or touching, physical abuse from a partner, verbal abuse from a partner, controlling behavior from a partner, being followed and cyberstalking, i.e. excessive text messages, phone calls or social media messages. In the Title IX Office, you can have a safe space to come talk about any of these difficult issues.
2. How do I make a Title IX report?
   • There are multiple ways to make a report to the Title IX Office.  You can submit an incident report form (located on the Lipscomb ready app or the Title IX homepage www.lipscomb.edu/beheard), email the Title IX Office at titleix [at] lipscomb.edu, or come to our office located in Crisman Administration Building, 2nd Floor (main level), in the Office of General Counsel.
3. What is the difference between making a Title IX report and filing a Title IX complaint?
   • A report is the act of notifying Title IX that an incident of sexual misconduct has occurred. During this stage, you can be offered support and connected to resources, as well as be given guidance and information on what options are available to you. A Formal Complaint is submitted by you, in writing, requesting Lipscomb begin the formal grievance process of investigating the allegations of sexual misconduct. The Respondent will be notified at this time of the allegations made against them, including the reported incident and by whom.

   • The Counseling Center is located in the SAC (Student Activities Center), at the corner entrance facing the Ezell Center, just off the elevator on the second floor. Normal operating hours are Monday-Friday, 8 a.m.-5 p.m.
      
2. What do I need to know about individual counseling sessions?
   • Intake appointments are 30 minutes. Counseling sessions are typically 50 minutes. Clients often attend sessions weekly, but you can attend less often.
   • Some mental health issues are best served off campus, and a list of those resources is available on the counseling center website. In those cases, referral services are available to help you connect with the appropriate resources.
3. Who will know I am attending counseling?
   • Counseling services are confidential, except where the law requires disclosure. (Details are available in the informed consent for counseling.) The University Counseling Center adheres to very strict confidentiality standards as outlined by the ACA, AAMFT and NASW Codes of Ethics. No one outside of Counseling Center personnel has access to a student's records, and counseling records are not part of the student's educational record. If contacted, we cannot give out any information or even confirm that a person is receiving counseling (even to parents), unless a written authorization to release information signed by the client is on file.

1. Do I need to reapply for my VA benefits every semester?
   • After completing your initial registration for educational benefits, you only need to resubmit a Certification Request Form each semester. It is your responsibility to keep track of your remaining benefits each semester to ensure your tuition payments will be met.
2. What happens if I change my schedule after I submit a Certification Request Form to Veteran Services?
   • If you make changes to your schedule after submitting a Certification Request Form for processing, you need to immediately inform the Veteran Services Office and submit an updated form. Dropping a course may require you to repay the VA for a portion or the entire class. If you have questions about repaying for dropped classes, please contact the Veteran Services Office before dropping a course.
3. I don’t have any VA benefits - why would I need Veteran Services?
   • Veteran Services provide far more than just certification of VA benefits: We’re advocates for our student veterans and dependents. We can assist with professional development, networking and job searching. Additionally, we’re here to help you be successful in any way we can along your journey through higher education, including mentoring, class registration or professional recommendation.
