Little Hands, Big Hearts - Summer 2025
May 29, 2025

We began our projects as our team split up so that half of us could work on the installation of solar panels on one of the roofs of the classrooms and the other half helped to pick up stones to build gabion baskets to reinforce the LHBH outer walls. While were working on placing the panels, some of the kids from the nearby neighborhoods came to play
and hang out with us. The kids would pick and give flowers to the girls, get mangos from the trees, play soccer, and talk with everyone. One of the funny highlights of the day was when Heidi helped the kids to chase some cows out of the LHBH property. After a very hot and sweaty morning of work and fellowship, we finally enjoyed some Honduran-style chicken and rice with vegetables and fresh fruit. We spent the rest of the evening finishing the installation of the four solar panels, helping to carry heavy stones into the gabion baskets and playing with the kids. Then we helped in the kitchen to prepare our dinner where we learned how to properly make flour tortillas!
We all walked down to the water pump to see what needed to be worked on. We then sat down and had a meeting with some of the LHBH staff to plan next steps for the project and future projects. Our team then split up, some of us fed wire from the roof into the attic where where others then fed the wire down to one of the classrooms.
The big thing to tackle today was finishing the solar setup with the batteries and inverter. While that was going on in the morning, most of the group went with the staff at LHBH to the beach where they did water therapy with the kids that need it. After lunch we led a Bible class for the kids who live in the area. Heidi made sure it was very interactive so we could keep their attention the whole time 😂.
We kicked things off by mounting a crucial part of the solar system and followed with breakfast—sugar cinnamon pastries alongside fresh cantaloupe – a simple but energizing meal before diving into the tasks ahead. After breakfast we had our morning devotional led by Reece and Ricky, calling us to live lives rooted in God and not to let emotions or fears of anxiety and worry win over our lives and consume us, but rather live one day at a time with God. The biggest focus of the day was the solar system. It was a full-team effort — we dug the trench and designed and built the battery box. Everyone worked to measure, cut, place, and strip all the wire we will need for tomorrow, ensuring everything was ready to finish connecting tomorrow. Afterward, some of us helped paint a wall on campus, adding another meaningful touch to the day's accomplishments.
We had a meaningful and memorable last day in Trujillo and Little Hands. Once again, we woke up early to help prepare a breakfast of scrambled eggs with bacon, flour tortillas, fried beans, pineapple, and warm coffee. After an enjoyable time of teaching and worship at church, our team split up to visit and have lunch in the homes of some of the church families. The families welcomed us with warmth and care and provided a delicious meal of rice with carrots, mashed potatoes, chicken stew, and plantains. We hung out with the families for around two hours to then come back to the hotel to before heading to the beach.
We loved our time at Little Hands and pray that God will be with the staff, children, and families. We are thankful for His blessings all throughout the trip. Even though we left, Little Hands will always be close to our hearts.
