Cozumel (Business with a Purpose)

This spring, Dr. Perry Moore, CPA, along with MAcc student Kara Burleson and senior accounting students Richard Xec-Cuyuch and Kara Williams, embarked on a mission to Cozumel, Mexico. Their goal? To use their accounting expertise in service to Ciudad de Ángeles, a faith-based orphanage providing a loving home for children in need.

Accounting with a Purpose 📊💙

Our team worked closely with Les and Jeannell Johnson, dedicated house parents who pour their hearts into caring for the children at Ciudad de Ángeles. Through internal audit procedures guided by the organization’s finance committee, we ensured financial accountability and helped strengthen their operations. By reviewing financial records and processes, we aimed to provide transparency and efficiency—critical components in supporting the long-term success of this ministry.

More Than Numbers: A Transformative Experience ✨

Beyond spreadsheets and reports, this trip was about relationships and impact. We spent time engaging with the children, hearing their stories, and witnessing the incredible love and dedication of the caregivers. It was humbling to see how something as technical as accounting could play a role in God’s work—bringing security and sustainability to an organization that provides hope and stability to these children.

Lessons in Faith & Service 🌎🙏

Each of us walked away changed. Serving in Cozumel reminded us that business and faith go hand in hand. Stewardship, accountability, and integrity are not just professional responsibilities—they are ways to reflect Christ’s love in the world.

We are grateful for the opportunity to partner with Ciudad de Ángeles and for the inspiring work of Les and Jeannell. To anyone looking for a way to use their professional skills for a greater purpose—missions like this prove that every talent can be a tool for the Kingdom.
