Advocacy Teams

Lipscomb’s advocacy teams prepare students for the courtroom and beyond.

Lipscomb University’s Mock Trial and Moot Court teams have provided students with a hands-on introduction to the legal profession while honing skills in public speaking, legal analysis, teamwork and critical thinking. Since its launch, students have competed in regional competitions across the country, facing off against teams from top institutions and gaining invaluable real-world experience in simulated courtroom settings.

Mock Trial

The Lipscomb Mock Trial team was established in 2023, driven by the enthusiasm of its students. Each spring semester, the team competes in mock trial events organized by the American Mock Trial Association (AMTA), which simulate courtroom scenarios and highlight the importance of theatrics, jury participation, and knowledge of legal practices.

In 2023, team member Nick Ingold ('23) received the Outstanding Witness Award at the regional competition in St. Louis. The following year, Lipscomb's team was honored with the Spirit of AMTA Award at the regional competition held at Notre Dame.

Moot Court

Launched in 2021, the Moot Court program allows students to compete with the American Moot Court Association (AMCA). It has expanded to include participants from various majors who are interested in enhancing their understanding of constitutional law. For the past four years, Lipscomb has had a team advance to the octafinals in each competition.
