Narrative Psychology: The Power of Our Stories in Conflict, Crises, & Day-To-Day Life
Friday, October 3, 2025
Lipscomb: Spark's Idea Center

This one-day workshop for professionals advances the notion that “stories are science” and that understanding their impact is critical to being successful in life—especially in conflict and dispute situations that range from daily interactions to crises and everything in between. Critical to all of this is maintaining the humanity and dignity of everyone involved.
This full-day event brings together the practices and research from the broad field of narrative psychology which includes narrative medicine and narrative therapy. Through hands-on learning, you’ll see directly how to apply these approaches to become even more effective in your work. Practices include examining literary arts (texts, images, and videos) to enhance empathy, (self) compassion, and open-mindedness while also engaging in practical activities to communicate more effectively and be supportive of other professional skills.
This is anything but “soft”: these specific practices have been applied to a wide-range of professionals including: leadership, NASA, hostage negotiators, healthcare professionals, the military, business CEOs and entrepreneurs, mediators and attorneys, and many others. No matter who you are, this will support you in both your professional and personal life.
If this appeals to you, even if you are not exactly sure exactly why, this is the program for you and you’ll see you’re not alone either. Join us to advance this perspective of yours alongside others who also want to “win” in life while also making the world a better place. It’s possible and you’re already proving it.
