Prospective Students
We encourage you to find out more about the programs we offer and about the unique experience of studying engineering at Lipscomb.
Engineering is a challenging and rewarding field applying science, mathematics, and creativity to invent, design, test, build and operate engineering systems that will meet the needs of society. We're proud to offer ABET accredited programs with a small faculty-to-student ratio that ensures you will develop close relationships (and networking opportunities) with faculty who bring years of real-world engineering experience to the classroom. Our graduates are sought after by a wide range of industries and follow a variety of exciting career paths in engineering, science, sales, and technology.
Desirable High School Background
A high school student wishing to pursue one of our engineering majors should take as many academic courses as possible. Two years of algebra, as well as geometry, advanced mathematics and trigonometry should be taken. Courses in chemistry and physics will be especially helpful. Students should be sufficiently prepared to begin the calculus sequence in their first semester. For students considering AP courses, the College of Engineering recommends the following to maximize your AP experience related to our engineering program requirements: AP Chemistry, AP English Comp or AP English Literature, AP Microeconomics, AP History.
Scholarships
Because of the generosity of several endowments, we are pleased to offer competitive scholarships within our department. Typically, these awards are of $500 to $2,500 per year, and are renewable each year (up to four years of study), contingent upon the student’s successful academic progress.

Transfer Students
The College of Engineering welcomes transfer students from other universities and community colleges each year. It is important to connect with your admissions counselor here at Lipscomb early on to determine what general education courses will be transferred from your current school to us and what financial aid you may qualify for. Our department chairs then evaluate any engineering courses you have taken to determine where in our program sequence you could feasibly start to ensure you maximize your time here at Lipscomb.
Laptop Requirements
All students entering into any of the College of Engineering’s programs of study are required to have a laptop of their own. Please note the following minimum requirements to ensure a system capable of handling the hardware & software used in engineering:
NOTE: A Mac computer with dual boot Windows/Mac does NOT work effectively with many of our engineering programs and specifically, the hardware we use in our classes.
Minimum Required: Windows 64-bit OS; 17 Processor or equivalent; 16 gig RAM; 1 TB hard drive space.
Students seeking degrees within the School of Computing should reference those laptop requirements on the School of Computing website.
