Transfer Process Questions
Transferring to a different college is a big decision. You may be wondering whether you should transfer and what the process is like. These questions can help you evaluate your situation.
If you’re a community college student and want to earn your bachelor’s degree, you’ll have to continue your education at a four-year university. Lipscomb has articulation agreements with every community college in Tennessee for course credit transfer through the Tennessee Transfer Pathways program, which means all of your credits will transfer to Lipscomb.
If you’re a student at another four-year institution, there are lots of reasons that you might want to make a change. Maybe you want to be closer to home, live in a larger city or pursue an academic program your current school doesn’t offer. Sometimes it’s just not the right fit. If you feel unhappy or unsettled for these or other reasons, it could be time to make a change.
If you’re ready to start the transfer process, make a list of criteria for what you want in your next school and start researching other schools of interest to you that meet your criteria. Based on your research, schedule visits to your favorite schools to see if the in-person experience lives up to what you find online. Then, submit an application to your top schools. At Lipscomb, transfers can apply for free!
It will be a little different at every school, but we try to make the transfer application process simple and easy. All you need to do is complete the Lipscomb application for admission (or the Common App) and submit an official transcript from each college you’ve previously attended.
Every college has different course requirements, but most schools offer a transcript evaluation to help you determine how much of your credit will count at the schools you are considering. At Lipscomb, we generally accept courses for transfer if they were earned at a regionally accredited college or university with a grade of “C” or higher. We will accept up to 63 credits from a community college and up to 94 from a university or a combination of community college/university.
