Track teams among nation's top in academics

The Lipscomb Bisons and Lady Bisons track and field teams led the nation in academics this year.

The Lipscomb Lady Bisons track & field team finished third in NCAA Division I in the list of Indoor and Outdoor Scholar Teams released by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA).

The Lady Bisons posted a 3.5 grade point average. The University of Tennessee-Chattanooga was first with a 3.550 and Butler University was second with a 3.547.

The Bisons track & field team finished eighth in NCAA Division I in the list of Indoor and Outdoor Scholar Teams of the Year announced by USTFCCCA. The Bisons team grade point average was 3.230. DePaul led the nation with a 3.419 GPA.

The selection of the All-Academic Indoor and Outdoor Scholar Teams of the Year Award is based on a combination of academic and athletic achievements, with the top honor going to the team that had the combination of the best overall finish at the respective Division Indoor or Outdoor National Championships and cumulative GPA. A team must have a minimum 3.00 GPA to be nominated.
