More than 2,000 patrons filled Allen Arena this week to support Rocketown and to hear Super Bowl-winning coach and best-selling author Tony Dungy.

Dungy was the keynote speaker at the local non-profit’s luncheon fundraiser on Tuesday. Special guest appearances included Tennessee Titans’ Coach Jeff Fisher, Grammy Award-winner Vince Gill and Martina McBride.

“Thank you for supporting Rocketown and for honoring Tony. When you think about Tony Dungy you think of words like humility, respect and dignity. He’s a tremendous father and tremendous husband,” said Fisher.

Dungy, author of “Uncommon” and “Quiet Strength,” said although he enjoyed his coaching career, he has enjoyed the ministry opportunities he has had in retirement.

“I knew there would be other places and other opportunities where I could serve the Lord and help young men. That’s really where my heart was,” he said.

Following the luncheon, Dungy addressed a gathering of middle and high school athletes, where he encouraged them in everything they do to “give good effort, have a great attitude and put the Lord first.”

Founded in 1994 by Michael W. Smith, Rocketown serves Middle Tennessee youth.
