Summer Celebration ends with Independence Day festivities

Thousands of people gathered at Lipscomb Friday, July 1, to begin the Independence Day holiday and the conclusion of Summer Celebration 2016.

Families enjoyed inflatable games and a picnic in the Allen Arena mall area to kick-off the celebration. Jeremy Swindle, of Gateway Church of Christ in Pensacola, Florida, and Acappella along with special guest the Church of Christ United in Psalms Worship Chorale, led a time of worship in song.

SC_2016_1Alan Robertson, former longtime minister o the White’s Ferry Road Church of Christ in West Monroe, Louisiana, who appears on A&E Network’s “Duck Dynasty,” and Lynn Anderson, president of Hope Network Ministries and faculty member at Abilene Christian University, challenged the audience gathered in Allen Arena with keynote addresses. Robin Brannon, of Southwest Church of Christ in Jonesboro, Arkansas, also led a time of singing.

The Annie Moses Band entertained guests with a live concert as festivities moved outside to the Allen Arena mall. The Annie Moses Band is known for its blend of folk and classical music, and they have performed on stages around the world. They are often featured on PBS.

The evening culminated with an exciting fireworks display accompanied by a variety of popular patriotic music.

The celebration marked the three-day event examined the theme “Roller Coaster: David’s Wild Ride With God." It featured inspiring messages, practical ministry sessions, engaging kids’ programs and textual studies about David’s wild ride on life’s roller coaster. 

In addition to Robertson and Anderson, keynote speakers included Joseph Shulam, Netivyah Bible Instructional Ministry in Jerusalem; Jonathan Storment, Highland Church of Christ in Abilene, Texas; Phil Brookman, Memorial Road Church of Christ in Edmond, Oklahoma;Chris Smith, Harpeth Hills Church of Christ in Nashville; Ronnie Norman, First Colony Church of Christ in Houston, Texas; Josh Ross, Sycamore View Church of Christ in Memphis, Tennessee; David Fleer, professor of preaching at Lipscomb University; and Richard Barclay, Hillcrest Church of Christ in Decatur, Georgia.

SC_2016_2Other featured worship leaders for the lectureship included Keith Lancaster, founder of Acappella Ministries in Paris, Tennessee; Anthony Lancaster, faculty member of Acappella Ministries’ Worship Leader Institute and worship leader at Madison Church of Christ in Madison, Tennessee; Kevin Schaffer, worship minister at Central Church of Christ in Amarillo, Texas; Stephen Maxwell, worship minister at North Atlanta Church of Christ in Dunwoody, Georgia; and Bret Morris, worship minister of North Davis Church of Christ in Arlington, Texas.
