Dr. Roy Hamley, Lipscomb University co-director of the Master in Counseling and director of the Woodmont Hills Counseling Center in Nashville, has been named a fellow in thanatology by the Association of Death Education and Counseling (ADEC).

The fellow in thanatology is an advanced professional certification for thanatology professionals. It recognizes practitioners and educators in the discipline of death, dying, and bereavement who have met specified knowledge requirements and who demonstrate advanced levels of competency in teaching, research and clinical practice.

According to association officials, Hamley is one of only 12 psychologists in Tennessee certified as a fellow in thanatology.

The ADEC is a professional organization dedicated to promoting excellence and recognizing diversity in death education, care of the dying, grief counseling and research in thanatology.

Dr. Roy Hamley has been teaching at Lipscomb since 1974. He has been awarded two "Outstanding Teacher" awards by the university for excellence in teaching. In addition to teaching, he is a Licensed Professional Counselor who specializes in grief counseling and co-director of Lipscomb's Master of Counseling program.
