With finals and summer break approaching, SGA is holding its Prayer in the Square event for Lipscomb students and staff on Wednesday, April 27, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. as a way to cover Lipscomb’s campus in prayer.

Four prayer stations will be set up in the middle of the square for students to take a break from their day and join in community with the Lord and others in prayer. Each station will feature a different category of prayer including: “My Walk,” “Our Campus,” “Our Community” and “Our World.”

Similar to Lipscomb’s "First Day We Pray," SGA was looking for a way to make these gatherings more accessible and open for all of campus to run across and participate in, said Jackson Smith, the recently elected SGA President for the 2016-17 school year.

“The purpose of Prayer in the Square is to bring the gift of prayer that God has given us and not hide it away, but to be proud of it and enjoy it,” said Smith. “What better place to do that than the center of Lipscomb’s campus?

“We want to give thanksgiving to the Lord for the wonderful things that He is doing on our walk, on our campus, in our community and in our world. We also want to call on the name of the Lord in petition for the places we are hurting and need Him.”

Students will spend time being prayed over, prayed with or just praying for those that walk though the square.

“Prayer in the Square is an event that truly embodies the community that we were created for,” Smith continued. “By simply allowing space for communal prayer, so many doors are opened up to grow. We encourage students to pray with other students and with the faculty and staff in order to instill this community that our university is crying out for. We have the opportunity to encourage and bless each other in such powerful ways, why not take advantage of that?”

In the chance of rain, Prayer in the Square will be relocated to Zebi's lounge in the Bennett Campus Center.
