From jazz standards to opera masterpieces, Lipscomb University's Music Department presents a wide range of live classical performances by both students and professional musicians. Most performances are free and Lipscomb parking is available at no cost.

The Nashville Early Music Project             
“Crescent, Cross and Star: Music of Medieval Spain”

Cost is $15-$25, $10 for seniors and students.
 
This ensemble, the successor to the Nashville Early Music Ensemble, features vocalists and instrumentalists performing music of the Middle Ages and the Renaissance in authentic style on reproduction period instruments. The NEMP is dedicated to promoting interest in early music with innovative programming and educational outreach, as well as fostering a collegial community of early music performers and enthusiasts throughout the Nashville and Middle Tennessee area.

Vanderbilt professor Jared Hauser and friends are featured in a recital of chamber works for oboe. Hauser has performed internationally as a soloist and chamber musician. Before joining the Blair School of Music, he served as principal oboist of the Orlando Philharmonic Orchestra and as artist faculty at the Lynn Conservatory of Music. His performances have been broadcast on NPR’s “Performance Today,” CBC/Radio Canada and BBC Radio 3, and he received critical acclaim for his recordings with Blue Griffin Records.

Chamber music recital featuring four Lipscomb music faculty.
 
Dawn Hartley has performed with the Albany (Ga.) Symphony, the Tallahassee Symphony, the Atlanta Opera Orchestra, the Dayton Philharmonic, the New World Symphony, the National Repertory Orchestra, and the Los Angeles Philharmonic Institute Orchestra. In 1991 she joined the Nashville Symphony, where she holds the position of assistant principal bassoon.
 
Daniel Lochrie has been a member of the Nashville Symphony (with recent recordings on the Naxos and Decca labels) since 1992.  He has also played with the Columbus Symphony, Fort Wayne Philharmonic and the West Virginia Symphony. Lochrie has been featured as soloist and chamber musician on WPLN’s Live in Studio C and Belmont’s Camerata chamber series, and he has premiered a clarinet quintet for the Nashville Ballet. 
 
Carolyn Treybig is an active solo and chamber performer and has performed as a guest artist in Alabama, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Louisiana, Mississippi, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Texas, and Virginia. She performs regularly with the Belmont Chamber Winds and has performed with numerous wind quintets as well as other chamber ensembles such as Duo Brilliante, Diapason Wind Trio and Triptych.
 
Jerome A. Reed, Lipscomb University professor of music, has performed extensively in the U.S., South America, and Europe, appearing in such venues as the Mendelssohnhaus in Leipzig, Germany, the Musikhochschule in Graz, Austria, and the Conservatoire Royale in Brussels.  His work has been broadcast over U.S., German, and Australian Public Radio. His performance schedule averages around 20 concerts, lectures, and recitals every year.

American mezzo-soprano Crystal Jarrell is a two-time regional finalist of the Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions and was the winner of the Audience Favorite Award in the same competition in the San Diego District in 2008. She has appeared as a soloist with the San Diego Symphony Orchestra, Golden State Pops Orchestra, Indianapolis Arts Chorale, Bloomington Symphony Orchestra, Classical Chorus of Abilene, Utah Festival Opera Orchestra, and the Indiana University Chorale.
 
The program will include arrangements of hymn standards by Amy Tate Williams of the Nashville Opera performed by Jarrell and tenor Eric Schmidt.

This vocal recital by Lipscomb voice faculty member Patricia Roberts will feature works by Mozart, Rodrigo, Rossini, and vocal arrangements of Chopin mazurkas. Roberts earned her bachelor’s in music from Texas Christian University in 1988, where she studied voice and was a Nordan Fine Arts Scholarship Recipient.  She received a master’s from Baylor University in 1991, where her studies also included vocal performance and opera. She has taught at Belmont University since 1996 and Lipscomb University since 1998 as an adjunct professor of voice.

The A Cappella Singers is the premier choral ensemble at Lipscomb University. Comprised of 65 members from various degree programs across campus, the group performs a wide selection of musical genres and styles each year, including sacred a cappella and major choral works with orchestra. Recent choral/orchestral performances have included Mozart’s Solemn Vespers and Faure’s Requiem.
