Lumination Network wins big at the Tennessee Associated Press Awards

Lipscomb University’s student new service Lumination Network was well represented at the awards table of the 2016 Tennessee Associated Press Broadcasters and Media Editors annual college media contest held at the John Seigenthaler Center at Vanderbilt University on April 9.
Walking away with nine awards, the Lumination staff took first place in Best Online Multimedia Package for their coverage of the Dove Awards; received an honorable mention for Best College Media Website, and “Lipscomb Sports Extra” took third place for Best TV Sports Coverage/Program.
Lumination staffers also won individual awards for their work this past year.
Erin Turner, a junior journalism and new media major and editor-in-chief for Lumination, took home three awards from the event including first place for Best Newspaper Photojournalist, second place for Best Online Specialized/Topic Reporting (Music) and third place for Best Online Ongoing Coverage for her coverage of the snow in Nashville.
Anna McClure took home a second place award in Best Radio Reporter and Colleen Casner received an honorable mention for Best TV Reporter. She and Janice Ng received third place for Best TV News Story for their work covering the unveiling of the Beaman Library’s collection of the letters from former German POW’s in World War II.
Lumination Network is the university’s official student news service with a staff made up of six students. Lumination Network distributes news in several formats including written articles, photo galleries, TV and radio.
The Tennessee Associated Press Awards are only one of three contests Lipscomb’s Department of Communication and Journalism enters each year. The other two include the Southeast Journalism Conference, which garnered several student awards earlier this year, and the Society of Professional Journalists Mark of Excellence awards.
