Lipscomb's annual Singarama spectacular hits stage March 8

Rachel Rose |

For 44 years, members of Lipscomb University’s social clubs have joined with other students to produce Singarama, a musical spectacular, and this year’s production is quickly approaching.

This year’s Singarama will be performed at 7:30 p.m., Thursday – Saturday, March 8-10, with a matinee showing at 2 p.m. Saturday, in Collins Alumni Auditorium, on the Lipscomb campus, 3901 Granny White Pike, Nashville. Cost is $10 on Thursday and $12 for all other performances.

Each year, an overall theme is chosen and from that central theme, three separate student groups write, produce, and choreograph their own mini-musical. Past audiences have been treated to a variety of musical styles, from pop and country hits to gospel and jazz standards, wrapped up in three variety shows.

The groups are judged at each performance on a number of different criteria and an overall winner is announced at the final show.

This year’s theme is “Lost in Alliteration” featuring the three shows “Back to the Basics,” “The More the Merrier” and “The Sweet Smell of Success.” The three main shows are interspersed with musical numbers from the hosts and hostesses – some of Lipscomb’s brightest entertainers.
