Lighting of the Green 2011 features Melinda Doolittle, Point of Grace

Even if the weather outside is frightful, the Lighting of the Green will be delightful! In the event of rain, all Lighting of the Green activities will take place as planned inside Allen Arena.

Don’t miss the annual kick-off to the Christmas season at Lipscomb University!
Lighting of the Green features an outdoor concert hosted by Amy Grant, holiday refreshments,
a Christmas tree lighting and free photos with Santa.

   
 
 Festivities begin at 4 p.m. and the concert begins at 5:30 p.m.

This year's concert will feature:

Opera singer Amanda McCaslin with accompanist Jim Dausch
 
 
 
 This year's Santa photos will be available in the Bennett Campus Center,
along with food available for purchase from Chick-Fil-A, Pappa John's Pizza,
Blue Coast Burrito, Starbucks and more.

The event will also include the Merry Marketplace, a collection of holiday vendors
with a portion of the purchases benefiting scholarships to Lipscomb.

Attendees are also encouraged to bring a gift of canned food or cash
for the Second Harvest Food Bank.

Amy Grant
 
Christian music pioneer Amy Grant has won six Grammys, had six No. 1 hits and sold more than 30 million albums in her career. She has won 26 Dove Awards and was inducted into the Gospel Music Hall of Fame in 2006.  
 
In 1982, she released her album, Age to Age, which became the first Contemporary Christian music album to be certified platinum and the first by a solo artist to be certified gold. In 1990, Grant signed to A&M and released her album Heart in Motion, which sold 5 million copies.
 
In 2006, Grant was honored with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame and hosted her own reality television show on NBC called Three Wishes. Grant released her first book, Mosaic: Pieces of My Life So Far, a collection of her favorite memories from her life and career in October of 2007. 
 
 
Point of Grace
 
Since forming at Ouachita Baptist University 19 years ago, Point of Grace has been nominated twice for a Grammy, sold more than 6.5 million albums and earned 24 consecutive No.1 singles. Throughout their career, members of the trio have also written eight books, received nine Dove Awards and produced two platinum and five gold records.
 
Point of Grace’s debut album, Point of Grace, was the first debut album of any genre to have six No. 1 hit singles. In 1996 the group released Life, Love & Other Mysteries in conjunction with a book of the same title detailing the life story of each group member. In 2007, Point of Grace released their latest albums, How You Live and Tennessee Christmas: A Holiday Collection. Recently, the group released its first ever cookbook, “Cooking With Grace.”
 
 
Melinda Doolittle
 
Melinda Doolittle is a graduate of Belmont University and became a household name on season six of American Idol. After American Idol, Doolittle was a guest performer on the “Michael W. Smith and Friends Caribbean Cruise” as well as Smith’s Christmas tour. Her first single, “My Funny Valentine,” was released in February 2008 through Sony BMG. Doolittle’s first album, Coming Back to You, was released in February 2009 and sold over 30,000 copies in the first month. She has also written a book, Life’s Next Level, describing her life before, during and after American Idol.
 
 
 
 
Jenny Gill

Sterling Gittens
 
Gittens migrated to America in 2000 from the Caribbean. Between 1997 and 1999 he made appearances on Caribbean and French television. His debut album is called “Change of Heart” and features twelve tracks. Gittens has won numerous Caribbean music awards and an ASCAP award.

Gene Miller
 
Miller has toured with Amy Grant, Peter Cetera, Kenny Loggins, Donna Summer and Richard Marx.He has played guitar since the age of 13 and has appeared on the Broadway stage.
