Comedian Bill Engvall headlines Minnie Pearl Comedy Tribute at Allen Arena

 |

Best known as a member of the Blue Collar Comedy Tour, Bill Engvall will headline the sixth annual Minnie Pearl Comedy Tribute at Lipscomb University’s Allen Arena on Saturday, April 19, at 7:30 p.m. Engvall’s single live performance serves as an homage to the well-known and beloved comedienne Minnie Pearl with all proceeds benefiting The Minnie Pearl Cancer Foundation.

After a big break on The Tonight Show with Johnny Carson, Engvall was named the American Comedy Awards Funniest Male Stand-Up Comic in 1992. Engvall’s popularity has spiked exponentially since the inception of the Blue Collar Comedy Tour in 2000 with fellow comedians Jeff Foxworthy, Ron White and Larry the Cable Guy. Due to immense popularity, the Blue Collar Comedy Tour has spawned a series of movies and a spin-off television show. Engvall also stars in The Bill Engvall Show, which debuted on TBS in July 2007, chronicling the life and work of therapist Bill Pearson, played by Engvall, in suburban Denver, Colorado.

“We are thrilled to have Bill Engvall continue the annual tradition of The Minnie Pearl Comedy Tribute,” said Key Holleman, board chair of The Minnie Pearl Cancer Foundation. “His characteristic humor of pointing out the comedy of everyday situations really connects with audiences, much like that of our namesake, Minnie Pearl.”

The Minnie Pearl Cancer Foundation is a public charity committed to funding programs that provide the greatest benefit to cancer patients and their families. By supporting new programs in cancer research, education, and patient and family services, the foundation honors the memory of Sarah Cannon, a cancer patient herself, who created the beloved character "Minnie Pearl."

The presenting sponsor is State Water Heaters, a leading manufacturer of commercial and residential water heaters based in Ashland City, Tenn. Other sponsors include Baird, Beaman Automotive Group, Bridgestone, Clear Channel, City Paper, Regions Bank, Sarah Cannon Research Institute, White & Reasor and WSMV.
