Lipscomb University’s College of Business has been ranked the top in Tennessee and among the top in the nation by Poets&Quants for Undergrads, the leading online publication for undergraduate business education news.
The organization unveiled its second annual Best Undergraduate Business Schools 2017 ranking and is considered the most comprehensive assessment of undergraduate business programs. Lipscomb was ranked No. 60 in the nation and is the only institution in Tennessee included in the ranking.
“This recognition is a reflection on the diligent work of our faculty in offering programs that are preparing our students not only for their chosen careers, but also in producing professionals with integrity who are ready for the workforce day one,” said Ray Eldridge, dean of the College of Business at Lipscomb University. “This ranking is particularly significant because it is a comprehensive review of undergraduate programs across the country that examines admissions standards, the student experience and employment outcomes, and Lipscomb’s program was determined to be among the best in the nation.”
Also included on the list were the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania, Olin Business School at Washington University in St. Louis, McIntire School of Commerce at the University of Virginia, Mendoza College of Business at the University of Notre Dame, McDonough School of Business at Georgetown University, The Indiana University Kelley School of Business, Kenan-Flagler Business School at The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, New York University Leonard N. Stern School of Business, Charles H. Dyson School of Applied Economics and Management at Cornell University and Haas School of Business at the University of California, Berkeley among others.
Poets&Quants for Undergrads compiled the 2017 ranking based on a representative survey of 6,288 recent graduates and school-reported data. Students across the 82 schools were surveyed on aspects of admissions standards, academic experience and employment placement. This data does not exist together anywhere else in the world.
“This is the most thorough data-driven study of undergraduate business education ever undertaken," said John A. Byrne, founder and editor-in-chief of Poets&Quants for Undergrads. “At a time when parents and students are confronting ever increasing tuition bills and levels of debt, the return-on-investment of a degree is more important than ever. We measure those returns and it's no wonder that more parents are encouraging their children to major in business. The best business schools are a no-brainer investment because they are reporting record or near-record starting salaries and job placement for their graduates. What we've produced is an invaluable resource for students trying to make smart decisions about where to get the best education for a successful career.”
This is the latest recognition for Lipscomb’s College of Business. Last month, it was recognized by College Choice as having the No. 26 undergraduate human resources program in the nation and the No. 36 international business degree program in the nation. Other recent honors include: The marketing program was named one of the top 50 programs in the nation by College Choice as part of its 2017 Best Bachelor’s in Marketing ranking; the accounting program was named the No. 2 in the nation and top in Tennessee in Christian Universities Online's Top 10 Christian Accounting Degree Programs 2017 ranking; the College of Business’ undergraduate program was ranked one of the top 100 in the nation by Bloomberg Businessweek in its Best Undergraduate Business Schools 2016 ranking; Lipscomb University listed No. 26 in the nation as part of College Choice’s 2016 Best Bachelor’s in Human Resources Degree programs ranking; the Master of Business Administration program is ranked among the 74 best in the nation by Bloomberg Businessweek (2015); and Human Resources MB named Lipscomb University one of the Top 50 Most Affordable Small Colleges for an HR Degree in 2015.
Developed in collaboration with business school deans and administrators, Poets&Quants for Undergrads’ methodology is based equally on admissions standards, academic experience, and employment outcomes. No other ranking or school survey asks for the same amount of concrete data ranging from the percent of National Merit Scholars at each business school, to the percentage of students with global experience while at the school, to average debt upon graduation. While other services might ask these sorts of data questions at a university-wide level, no other organization asks at a business-school specific level.
Key data highlights from the Poets&Quants for Undergrads 2017 ranking include:
- Nine out of 10 graduates at more than half of the schools are employed within three months of graduation.
- Fourteen schools listed in the ranking develop graduates who earn an average of over $70,000 in known total compensation.
- Graduates from 40 of the ranked schools received compensation packages of more than $60,000.
- Four undergraduate business programs have the same or lower acceptance rates than Harvard Business School’s full-time MBA program (11 percent).
- Twenty-six business schools reported 9 out of 10 students found jobs in their desired industry straight after graduation.
- Eight out of 10 graduates at 26 schools reported finding their first jobs at their company of choice.
