Armstrong named to world All-Am team by GlobalGolfPost

With a 2015 that included a win in the prestigious Western Amateur and the first appearance for a Lipscomb golfer in an NCAA regional, sophomore Dawson Armstrong has been named to the GlobalGolfPost All-Am Second Team presented by Polo-Ralph Lauren that includes 10 of the top-20 amateur golfers in the world.
“The beauty of this is it is recognizing his ability and what he’s done worldwide over the last 12 months,” said Lipscomb director of golf Will Brewer. “We focus a lot on the collegiate aspect of where he is and what we as a team are doing and sometimes we miss kind of the bigger picture of what he’s been able to accomplish.”
Ranked the No. 21 amateur golfer in the world bywww.ScratchPlayers.org , Armstrong also brought home wins in the Dogwood Invitational, the Memphis Intercollegiate and the Autotrader.com Collegiate Classic in 2015.
The Brentwood, Tennessee native also finished as the runner-up in the 2015 NCAA Chapel Hill regional narrowly missing the chance to go to the NCAA Championship as an individual. Armstrong helped lead his Lipscomb squad to the highest ranking in school history this fall as the Bisons sit in the top-60 in both theGolfWeek and Golfstat rankings.
He was joined on the second team by Derek Bard (USA), Stefano Mazzoli (Italy), Denny McCarthy (USA), Lee McCoy (USA), Matthew Nesmith (USA), Ryan Ruffels (Australia), Cormac Sharvin (Ireland), Robby Shelton (USA), Aaron Wise (USA). The first team selections were Marcus Kimhult (Sweden), Beau Hossler (USA), Bryson DeChambeau (USA), Paul Dunne (Ireland), Romain Langasque (France), Hunter Stewart (USA), Joh Rahm (Spain), Jordan Niebrugge (USA), Ashley Chesters (England) and Maverick McNealy (USA).
“The guys on this list are phenomenal golfers,” said Brewer. “Most of them are older than Dawson but the ability and what those guys have done are equal to what he’s done. He’s in great company. This is a great accolade for Dawson, his family, the community and the university.”
