Biography

John has been part of the faculty of Lipscomb University since the Fall of 1998. Before becoming Executive Director and Dean of Lipscomb University - Austin Center (LUAC), John was Associate Dean and Director of the Doctor of Ministry Program (2011-2020) and a Professor of New Testament and Ministry Courses in Hazelip School of Theology. In 2009-10, John served in the President's office as Presidential Faculty Fellow, and later was part of the coordinating committee for the Leadership Initiative Bridges (2014-2016). While teaching at Lipscomb, John also served in a variety of church contexts, including the Donelson Church of Christ, Woodmont Hills Church, and West End Church. The intersection of church and academy fuels his excitement in returning to Central Texas to be part of LUAC (he and his family lived in Temple, TX where John was the preaching minister of the Western Hills Church, 1989-93). John received his formal education from Abilene Christian University (B.A. M.A., M.Div.), Emory University (Ph.D.), and Lipscomb University (M.A. in Conflict Management). He and his wife Anne have two sons, Matt (Lipscomb B.A. '03) and Brad (Lipscomb M.A. in Conflict Management, '10), and three grandchildren.
