Biography

Mary Reaves Uhles has illustrated over 20 books for children from board books to chapter book series including Kooky Crumbs, with US Poet Laureate J. Patrick Lewis, and The Twelve Days of Christmas in Tennessee by Alice Faye Duncan. Her titles have appeared on state reading lists in Texas and Maryland and her book, A Tuba Christmas, published by Sleeping Bear Press, received a Kirkus Star. In the fall of 2025 her debut as an author illustrator, The Flock We Found, published with Magination Press Prior to beginning her career in publishing Mary worked as an animator on projects for Warner Brothers and Fisher-Price Interactive, including games for The Little People and movie tie-ins for The Quest for Camelot. Her work plotting story boards informs her picture book pacing to this day.
In addition to illustrating Mary has served as the Illustrator Coordinator for the Midsouth Region of the Society of Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators and continues to mentor budding book creators in both her teaching career and in independent study. Mary presents around the country at publishing and library conferences. A graduate of Ringling College of Art and Design, Mary lives with her family in Nashville TN.
