Biography
Dr. Andrea Mills is a Licensed Professional Counselor and Mental Health Service Provider in the state of Tennessee with a diversity of experience in the field. Her passion and specialization are in suicide prevention. Dr. Mills is a College and University Suicide Prevention Specialist with the American Association of Suicidology, as well as an Assessing and Managing Suicide Risk trainer for the Educational Development Center. Additionally, she is certified in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing, and an Approved Clinical Supervisor.
Before her tenure at Lipscomb, Dr, Mills worked at UAB Hospital, in the Addiction Recovery Program for emerging adults. She was with the Lipscomb University Counseling Center for ten years (2013- 2023), where she served as the Assistant Director for seven years, and the Director for three years. She also oversaw Lipscomb’s first SAMHSA grant which funded suicide prevention programming for university students. Dr. Mills taught a wide range of courses at Lipscomb as adjunct faculty (2016- 2023), and she is excited to continue her journey as an educator in a full-time faculty role.
Dr. Mills has been a presenter at many local, state, and national conferences. Additionally, she frequently speaks on suicide prevention to a variety of groups within the community. Dr. Mills holds a B.S. in Social Work from Abilene Christian University, an M.Ed. in Counseling with a specialization in Marriage and Family Therapy from The University of Montevallo, and a Ph.D. in Counselor Education and Supervision with an emphasis in Higher Education Leadership from The University of the Cumberlands.
Beyond her professional accomplishments, Dr. Mills finds joy in spending quality time with her spouse and their two wonderful children.
