Biography

A highly sought-after performer and educator, Alex Krew is recognized for his technical versatility and ability to connect with audiences. He frequently substitutes with the Nashville Symphony, performing repertoire ranging from Strauss’ Ein Heldenleben to Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony to pops and movie concerts. He has also performed with the Indianapolis Symphony and New World Symphony and appeared in the World Chess Hall of Fame’s Chamber Music Series. As core cellist of Nashville’s acclaimed Candlelight Concerts, Alex has performed over 300 concerts at the historic Parthenon, with programs spanning Bach to the Beatles. He has appeared at nearly every major Nashville venue, including the Ryman, Grand Ole Opry, TPAC, and Ascend Amphitheater.

A thirteen-year veteran of Nashville’s recording industry, Alex has contributed to thousands of film, television, and video game soundtracks, including Marvel’s Wolverine, Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order, Masters of the Air, Death Stranding 2, and The Boys. His recording collaborations include Dan + Shay, Brandon Flowers, Linda Perry, Cody Fry, and Alex Warren. He has also worked with distinguished conductors and soloists, including Leonard Slatkin, Cristian Măcelaru, Joshua Bell, Jean-Yves Thibaudet, Yo-Yo Ma, and principal players of the New York Philharmonic.

Alex joined the Lipscomb University faculty in 2023. His students have earned admission to competitive graduate programs, including Middle Tennessee State University, Indiana University Jacobs School of Music, and the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music. A native of Baltimore, he began studying cello at age five at the Peabody Conservatory’s Preparatory Division. He earned a full-tuition Cornelius Vanderbilt Scholarship to attend Vanderbilt University studying with Felix Wang, and completed his master’s degree at Indiana University with Eric Kim. His other mentors include Alison Wells, Bai-Chi Chen, Darrett Adkins, and Brinton Smith. He serves on the board of the Middle Tennessee Suzuki Association.
