Biography

Donna King, assistant professor of music, came to Lipscomb University as a piano instructor in 1987 and began full-time teaching in 1999. She teaches music history and music literature courses, class piano and beginning music theory. Professor King has a special interest in music for general education and collaborative learning environments. In addition to almost two decades of teaching and curriculum planning for music appreciation, she has developed or co-developed courses for the freshman seminar, integrated literature for general education, integrated humanities instruction for study abroad programs, Lifelong learning, and Summer Hostel.

A longtime member of the Music Teachers National Association, Professor King regularly serves as adjudicator for competitions and festivals sponsored by music teachers' organizations. She is the first carillonist for Lipscomb University’s 35-bell carillon, housed in the Allen Bell Tower. She holds the MA from Middle Tennessee State University and is currently completing coursework for the PhD in Historical Musicology from the University of Memphis.
