Biography
Marty Kennedy was born and raised in Athens, Georgia. She is an experienced Adult-Geriatric Nurse Practitioner with over 18 years of service in a variety of healthcare settings as a nurse and nurse practitioner. Marty graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the Medical College of Georgia and went on to earn a Master of Science in Nursing from Vanderbilt University with a focus in Geriatrics. She has worked as nurse at Vanderbilt University Medical Center and the University of Virginia Medical Center on step-down floors. She has worked as a nurse practitioner in a variety of settings including: outpatient primary care clinics, homebound patients, assisted living facilities, skilled nursing facilities and long-term care facilities. She currently works for Compassionate Health Associates as a nurse practitioner and manages patients' acute and chronic conditions in skilled nursing, long-term care and assisted living facilities.
In addition to her clinical work, Marty is passionate about education and has shared her expertise as an adjunct professor at Lipscomb University, where she taught an Aging Adult elective and assisted in labs for the Adult Health classes before transitioning into a full time position. Her commitment to the advancement of geriatric care extends beyond the classroom; she actively serves on the board of the Tennessee Senior Olympics and volunteers to support the organization's mission of promoting health and fitness among older adults. Marty balances her professional life with a busy family schedule with her husband, Daniel (LUSON graduate 2008), and their three children, playing and watching sports and being involved with their church community. Her dedication to both her career and family exemplifies her commitment to caring for others, whether they are patients, students, or loved ones.
