Biography
David Bender joined the Lipscomb faculty in 2020 as an assistant professor in nutrition and kinesiology. In 2002, Bender enlisted in the Marine Corps. He served from 2003 to 2011 and is an Operation Iraqi Freedom Veteran. Following his military career, Bender received his Bachelor’s degree in Nutrition and Dietetics from the University of New Mexico and his Master’s degree in Exercise and Nutrition Science from Lipscomb. He also completed the dietetic internship through Lipscomb’s program and is a registered dietitian. Prior to working at Lipscomb, Bender worked for the Department of Veterans Affairs in Kansas City as a health and wellness coach and helped implement VA’s Whole Health program. His research experience includes examining the effects of dietary nitrate on sprint performance and force production.
Bender is an active member of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics (AND); the Christian Society for Kinesiology, Leisure, and Sport Studies (CSKLS); and USA Track & Field (USATF) and is a certified USATF Level 1 Coach.
