Current Students - Scholarships
Lipscomb offers scholarships that recognize academic achievement, service involvement, talent and leadership capability.
Scholarships do not have to be repaid. To continue to receive your scholarship, you must meet the renewal requirements and file your FAFSA each year.
Non-Traditional Scholarships
- Visiting Students - No aid, including scholarships, is available for students who do not seek a degree, licensure or certification.
- Returning Students - Students who were initially enrolled at Lipscomb as first-time freshmen but have been away from Lipscomb for more than one semester:
- The initial-entry scholarship will not be offered if the student's intention was to withdraw from Lipscomb and enroll in another school for a semester or more as a regular student (not a visiting student).
- Students taking less than full-time summer classes while at home for summer break are excluded from this policy.
- As a general rule, leaving Lipscomb in the fall or spring term to enroll in another college or university will result in transfer student status upon return. Students away from Lipscomb for more than one semester will be awarded at the transfer scholarship scale, based on the most recent Lipscomb GPA.
- Second Degree Students - No institutional aid is available for students seeking a second bachelor's degree. You may, however, qualify for federal aid.
Departmental / Academic Program-Based Scholarship
Departmental colleges award their own scholarships to incoming students. They each have specific criteria, dates and application requirements that need to be met. Please contact your college to learn more about what scholarships are available and how you can apply.
Tennessee Hope Scholarship
Tennessee residents who graduate from high school in the state are eligible to apply for a HOPE Scholarship. To be eligible for renewal:
- The student must have a minimum 2.75 cumulative GPA at the end of the semester in which the student attempted 24 and 48 semester hours.
- The student must have a minimum 3.0 cumulative GPA at the end of the semester in which the student attempted 72 semester hours and any multiple of 24 semester hours thereafter.
- If the student does not have a minimum 3.0 cumulative GPA at the end of the semester in which the student attempted 72 semester hours and any multiple of 24 semester hours thereafter, then the student must:
- Have a minimum 2.75 – 2.99 cumulative GPA and have a semester GPA of at least 3.0 at the end of the semester in which the student attempted 72 semester hours and any multiple of 24 semester hours thereafter. The student’s continued eligibility will be determined on semester-by-semester basis and must maintain full-time enrollment.
- If a student ceases to be academically eligible for the HOPE Scholarship, the student may regain the award one-time only. The award may be re-established once the student meets any of the above criteria and maintains continuous enrollment and satisfactory academic progress at an eligible postsecondary institution without the HOPE Scholarship.
- The student must re-apply each year by completing the FAFSA and be continuously enrolled at an eligible postsecondary institution in the fall and spring semesters and maintain satisfactory academic progress.
Terms and Conditions
On Campus Only
Some institutional awards require recipients to live on-campus each semester to remain eligible. You must secure on-campus housing and meal plan for the scholarship to remain in place and pay to your account. If you move off-campus, the award may be affected.
Students with the following awards have an on-campus requirement:
- Trustee Scholarship
- Lipscomb Academy Valedictorian Scholarship
- Scout Award
- All Employment-Based Scholarship, except the NCSA (K-12) Employee Grant
- Kappa Iota Theta Scholarship
On and Off Campus
There are several awards which carry an award value for both on-campus and off-campus. This means if you live off-campus, the award will be reduced to meet the off-campus award value. Awards are subject to the Direct Cost Policy of the university. Awards will be adjusted to prevent an over-award of institutional aid. The awards are as follows:
- Head of School Grant
- Latino Achiever's Grant
- International Student Awards
- National Achievement Award: Finalist and Semi-Finalist
- National Hispanic Scholars: Finalist and Semi-Finalist
All Lipscomb University academic scholarships are valid up to 126 attempted hours. From time to time, exceptions to the 126 hour rule will be made for students who have unusual or extenuating circumstances, so students will need to contact the financialaid [at] lipscomb.edu (financial aid office) when they approach 126 hours.
Financial aid offer packaging is based on current information. Changes to the FAFSA, moving off-campus and additional gift aid (Lipscomb scholarships, outside scholarships, state and/or federal grants) may result in adjustment of institutional aid, including memorial scholarship awards. If you withdraw from the university or drop below full-time enrollment after the start of the semester and receive a refund of tuition (full or partial), all institutional aid will be removed whether paid or unpaid.
