Artificial Intelligence

Program Overview

Program Overview

Standard AI degrees teach you how to apply AI. Lipscomb University brings you a technical foundation to build AI solutions.

The B.S. in Artificial Intelligence at Lipscomb University is a technical, computer-science based degree designed to prepare you, a future tech leader, for highly in-demand careers at the intersection of artificial intelligence, software engineering and machine learning. This program allows you to build the systems everyone merely operates—you will develop deep competencies in modern AI tools, master industry-specific solution architectures and build an authoritative understanding of societal, ethical and economic impacts of artificial intelligence.

Offered by the School of Computing in the Raymond B. Jones College of Engineering, the program is built around a rigorous computer science backbone. You will learn to design machine learning models, execute natural language processing systems and deploy production-ready AI applications to cloud platforms—combining technical engineering fundamentals with hands-on, collaborative project work.

Capabilities you will build:

  • Design and Implement AI Models: Design, implement and evaluate machine learning models for classification, regression, clustering and anomaly detection using current languages and tools
  • Apply Natural Language Processing Techniques: Implement NLP systems including text processing, sentiment analysis, machine translation and conversational AI
  • Build and Deploy AI Applications: Deploy AI applications to cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP) with production-ready infrastructure
  • Optimize AI Models: Apply model compression, quantization and distributed training techniques
  • Select Appropriate AI Techniques: Justify AI technique selection based on problem characteristics, data availability and constraints
  • Evaluate Model Performance: Apply rigorous statistical methods including hypothesis testing, confidence intervals and A/B testing
  • Debug and Troubleshoot AI Systems: Systematically identify and resolve issues in data pipelines, model training and deployment
  • Apply Mathematical Foundations: Apply linear algebra, calculus and probability theory to AI problems
  • Evaluate Societal Implications: Assess potential impacts on employment, privacy, security and autonomy
  • Design for Privacy, Security and Fairness: Implement appropriate safeguards in AI systems
