Lynette Austin, dean of the College of Health Sciences, is pleased to announce the appointment of Associate Professor Anne Lowery, MS, RD, LDN, as chair of the newly formed College Missions Committee.
This initiative aims to develop sustainable medical missions that combine academic excellence with Christian service. Other committee members are: Professors Christine Deere (Nursing), Linda Elrod (Physician Assistant Studies), Kathy Wiliams (Nursing), Andrew Mauldin (Kinesiology), and Nicole Smith (Director of Operations, Perfusion).
Under Lowery's leadership, the committee is already focusing on creating meaningful partnerships with community stakeholders while providing students with transformative spiritual and educational experiences abroad.
"This structured approach ensures our missions deliver respectful, impactful service that aligns with both Christian values and professional healthcare standards," said Austin.
The program launches in March 2025 with its inaugural student mission to the Dominican Republic. Additional international and domestic service locations are being evaluated for expansion in 2025, reflecting our commitment to broadening students' healthcare experience while serving communities in need.
