On Sunday afternoon, June 25, the InterGenerate conference officially kicked off as Lipscomb University welcomed 150 Christians arriving from South Africa, Canada, Australia, the United Kingdom and 25 different states.
The conference is hosted in partnership with GenOn Ministries and Lipscomb’s Institute for Christian Spirituality housed in the College of Bible & Ministry. Attendees represent a variety of backgrounds and traditions including Anglican, Roman Catholic, Churches of Christ, Baptist, Episcopal, Lutheran, Methodist, Presbyterian, Reformed, Seventh Day Adventist, Uniting Church of Australia, the Vineyard and several community churches. The conference events are being held in the university’s Ezell Center.
The inaugural InterGenerate Conference is a three-day long gathering where participants attend presentations, workshops and interactive sessions—all of which focus on the conference’s two central questions: “Why should we bring the generations together?” and “How can we bring them together?”
The InterGenerate conference aims for academics and practitioners to collaborate and discuss how to unite Christians of all ages into one church body.
Holly Allen, a professor of family science and Christian ministries at Lipscomb University, is the creator and director of the InterGenerate conference. Allen has more than 25 years’ experience in educational psychology, intergenerational Christian formation, and children’s and family studies. Before coming to Lipscomb, Allen was director of the Child and Family Studies Program and professor of Christian ministries at John Brown University in Siloam Springs, Ark. A board of 10 field leaders assists Allen and acts as the InterGenerate task force.
The conference concluded June 27.
