Lipscomb Academy Names Jay Walton Middle School Basketball Coach

Lipscomb Academy has named former college coach and Lipscomb Academy coach Jay Walton as its new middle school boys basketball coach. 

Walton, who has served as head coach of Lipscomb Academy’s seventh grade and freshman basketball teams takes over immediately as head coach of the middle school basketball program. 

“Jay is a talented coach and communicator who understands developing young players both on and off of the court while putting them in positions to maximize their strengths,” said Lipscomb Academy Athletic Director Dr. Mike Roller. “As a former college coach, Jay has a deep understanding of the skills and attitude our players need to perform at the next level and will be a strong addition to our comprehensive basketball program.”

Walton has extensive experience as a basketball coach at both the collegiate, high school, and middle school levels. Prior to joining Lipscomb Academy as a seventh grade and freshman basketball coach, he spent 15 years at Delta State Univeristy, the University of Mobile and Lipscomb University. 

“I am honored to serve Lipscomb Academy and it’s student-athletes in this role,” said Walton. Basketball is a great way to help these young men grow physically, spiritually, and emotionally, and I look forward to helping them develop.”

Walton and his wife, Stephanie, have three children - Cristina who graduated from Lipscomb Academy in 2016, Willie a freshman and Ruby a sixth grader.
