Homecoming activities begin Thursday with Lipscomb Honors, reunions

Lipscomb alumni from across the country will descend on campus this week for annual Homecoming festivities.

Events begin Thursday, Nov. 9, and run through Sunday, Nov. 12. A variety of events for alumni of all ages is planned. Among the highlights are reunions for the Class of 1967 and the Class of 1992, social club reunions, basketball games, the revival of Bison Day, performances of “She Loves Me” and more.

bison day_350Activities begin on Thursday, Nov. 9, with Lipscomb Honors: An Evening of Story and Song honoring Kerri Pauley Edwards ’93, president of KP Entertainment, a company that manages artists Luke Bryan, Cole Swindell and others; and Bruce Bowers ’72, former Metro Nashville Public Schools administrator and member of the Lipscomb Athletics Hall of Fame. The Lipscomb Honors are the highest honor conferred upon alumni and recognize the inspiring ways Lipscomb alumni are making a profound impact in the world.  The event will highlight the unique ways alumni contribute to and make a lasting impact on humankind far beyond the borders of Lipscomb’s campus. A cheerleading reunion is also planned for Thursday evening at 6 p.m. in Allen Arena. Meet the cheerleaders, coaches and mascot; stunt showcase for current team and alumni; mini clinic for children and grandchildren. Friday, Nov. 10

1:30 p.m. -- Bison Day CelebrationBison Square. The favorite campus tradition returns to Lipscomb on Friday afternoon! Greek organizations will hold a competition of skits using the Bison Day theme.

2:30 - 4 p.m. -- College of Business Opening Bell Reception for Faculty and Staff, Bloomberg Financial Lab, Swang Business Center. Lipscomb University faculty and staff are invited to see the capabilities of the exciting new Bloomberg Financial Lab.

4 - 6 p.m. -- College of Business Opening Bell Reception for the Bloomberg Finance Lab, Swang Lobby and the Bloomberg Financial Lab. College of Business alumni and friends, mark your calendars for an exciting night of celebration as we ring the opening bell of the new Bloomberg Financial Lab. Join us for an interactive experience in the Bloomberg Financial Lab to experience how Wall Street trading really works! A reception will be held in the lobby with refreshments. 5 p.m. -- College of Business Opening Bell Ceremony, Swang Lobby. The opening bell ceremony of the Bloomberg Finance Lab will include a few brief words from Dean Ray Eldridge and the College of Business Alumni Board, whose CHARGE!FORWARD initiative is providing critical funding to the lab. The college also will acknowledge a generous donor whose contributions will honor retired finance professor Bill Ingram. 4 - 6 p.m. -- Alpha Kappa Psi Alumni Reunion, Swang 100. The Delta Kappa chapter of Alpha Kappa Psi will host an alumni reunion during Lipscomb's annual Homecoming Weekend. 6:30 p.m. – Men’s Bison Basketball vs. Emory UniversityAllen Arena. Join your fellow fans in Allen Arena to cheer on the Bisons. The evening also features recognition of Miss Lipscomb and the Bachelor of Ugliness, a Kidzone, Greek Night and a special academic reception at halftime in McQuiddy Gym. Cost: No charge to attend, but RSVP is requested through the HC-Market to receive free General Admission game tickets.

Saturday, Nov. 11

9 - 10 a.m. - Golden Circle CoffeePaul Rogers Board Room, Ezell Center. Alumni who graduated from Lipscomb 50+years ago are automatically members of the Golden Circle. This year, the Golden Circle welcomes the Class of 1967 to its group! 9 - 11 a.m. – College of Professional Studies Seminar, Ezell Center Chapel. "How Effective Leaders Spend Less Time and Get More Done," presented by productivity consultant Mridu Parikh. The 90-minute interactive, professional and personal development session will leave you inspired to use tools, strategies and insights to improve essential leadership skills. 7:30 p.m. – Homecoming Musical: “She Loves Me,” Collins Alumni Auditorium. Presented by the Lipscomb Department of Theatre, “She Loves Me” is a warm romantic comedy with an endearing innocence and a touch of old world elegance. Set in a 1930s European perfumery, we meet shop clerks, Amalia and Georg, who, more often than not, don't see eye-to-eye. "She Loves Me" is based on the same story as the blockbuster film "You've Got Mail." Cost: $11/adult (General Admission). Reserve through the HC-Market. Sunday, Nov. 12

9 - 10 a.m. – Freshman Sunday ReunionGranny White Pike Church of Christ. Visit the Granny White Pike Church of Christ for its morning service and reconnect! Lipscomb alumnus and biology professor Kent Gallaher will teach a combined Sunday School class at 9 a.m., and alumnus Russ King will preach during the 10 a.m. service. RSVP is required through the HC-Market.

1 - 3 p.m. – Associated Women for Lipscomb Shopping Event at Hot PinkHot Pink, 231 Franklin Road in Brentwood. Purchase a $10 ticket from AWL for this private event and receive $10 off your Hot Pink purchase. Hot Pink will donate a percentage of sales to AWL scholarships.
